Named after a type of spaghetti, due to the uncanny similarities between the shapes of both, the alphabet consists of (mostly) letters which, when arranged in a seemingly random assortment of consonants and vowels, make words. These words can then go on to make sentences, such as;

My dog is nestled in your beer

and;

The reason for my languidity is that I have yet to find a perpitudinal rose.

Before the alphabet was finalised the only way of writing words was morse code. eg;

.-- .. - - -.-- .--. . -.. .. .- -. --- - - --- -... . - .- -.- . -. ... . .-. .. --- ..- ... .-.. -.--

so you can probably see why they changed it.
