Miracle
From Wittypedia
Origins
From the French Mer Acle meaning acle of the sea, it originally refered to the phenomenom whereby rocks would mysteriously dissapear whenever waves covered them. The French, believing sorcery was involved, started to view the ocean as a wizard and would make sacrifices to him of tamarin monkeys - which is where we get the expression 'To throw a monkey to the wizard of the sea' - eg;
- Bob: "It's warm in here... I think I'll just prop open the door with this baby"
- Sid (whispering to Ethel): "There he goes again, throwing monkeys to the wizard of the sea!"
Acles
Many more acles happened in france around that time such as;
- Lit acle - whereby teenagers would leave their beds a mess only to come home from school to find them made.
- Dent acle - when teeth would mysteriously dissapear after someone was punched in the mouth (A spate of double attacks in Spain led to the headline "Ai! Dent acle")
- Salle de bain acle - when no one would admit to leaving the toilet seat up.
