The Physics person will spend time geeking-it-up about everything until one day he is institutionalised and placed in a university with; free board, lodgings and a grant of cash till he dies.

Of course then they are free to sit in a darkend room with lots of equipment and a large and powerful computer. The man or rarely woman (they dont make such good geeks) will then use all his vast array of equipment to make a huge apparatus.
The apparatus is placed in such a way that it blocks anyone from entering the room for periods of upto 50 years at a time, the scientist will then furiously surf porn until exhausted, he sleeps.
