Pubs
From Wittypedia
(Redirected from Pub)
Invented by an alcoholic Irishman who was sick of standing in a field to drink, pubs, as they have come to be called, are now everywhere. The name pub itself is an acronym, coming from the old Bavarian expression Pies Und Booze as in olden days ales could only be purchased as an accompanyment to a nice meat pie.
Irish theme pubs are found throughout the world and are often deeply authentic - with leprechauns and bikes hanging on the walls (the Irish are yet to invent an outdoor bike rack). However, they hardly exist in Ireland itself where you are now far more likely to walk into an American themed pub - with weak beer, '80's rock on the jukebox and a pool table with ridiculously huge pockets.
